She Stared

“Elizabeth!”

It was her father’s voice.

He did not say Lizzie or Beth. He used the name that demanded her immediate attention, as it had since her diaper days.

She heard the Honeycomb blinds knock timidly against the windowpane. A lissom darkness dithered into the room.

She drew in breath stilly, trying to weed out reason from the chaos of dreams.

The softest mewl answered her.

Her heart walloped her chest so intensely she believed the echo was visible.

Her body protested, lading itself into the mattress.

An umbrage ambled silently across the bedroom floor.

The more she stared, the closer it moved towards her.

Special thanks go out to my boy, Quaid, on this creepy pic!
