Why Making Fun or Judging People on Social Assistance Will Always Be a Shitty Thing to Do:
Yeah, I'm over it. Cost of living has skyrocketed and I guess it still needs to be annoyingly explicated: People need to feed their kids. People need to house themselves. And not everyone has it easy as you. I'd even go far to say that 'easy' is something most of us have a lack of.
Politicians have propagandized certain types into believing that welfare recipients are the reason their lives suck and not the fact those same politicians keep giving all their money to rich people and have spent the years annihilating the middle class. It’s a convoluted way of yelling “squirrel”! And pointing away from themselves. They do the same thing with immigrants. It's been long ago wrong. These idiots years ago lost the ability to claim ignorance. Yet- social media seems to be plentiful.
Also, people just are loving to believe those same people are moochers gaming the system, so they can just sit around getting free money. It's painfully false. Does it ever happen? Sure, an extremely tiny percentage. It’s the exception, not the rule.
Help- which others label 'lazy.' People unsurprisingly weaponise that word with the sole purpose of being able to point at them and say "See-see, it’s those poor people are mooching! They are the reason I can’t have a good life. It’s all dem poor people struggling to eat every month. They all have big screens and alcohol." Stereotypes abound... Cause the cost of rent right now isn't insane. The cost of groceries doesn't baseball bat the kne* caps. What trifle a person gets MUST be spent on drugs, alcohol and brand name clothes...
Nevermind that they put arbitrary income cut-offs and amounts you can have in your bank account and if you go one penny over either you lose all help. Which pretty much makes it completely useless as a safety net if you dare to try doing what you are told you should do and work your way out of it. Bettering yourself could render you and your children homeless, could mean going without food. Could cause the loss of heat. Better yourself or you're lazy.
Not one person I've ever known personally, who needed help, was trying to game the system. No one was trying to mooch. No one wanted to stay on it. Most are trying to get off. Before they realized it would screw them taking that promotion. They talk about using the extra money to get a vehicle, to pay for school so they could get a better-paying job. To afford the child care she'd need so she could have an actual path to doing it being a single mother.
They have escaped domestic violence. They are young-single mothers; they don't have family around to help. They, without preparation, or savings, became sick. They struggle mentally. They are feeding their kids now. They are sheltering them until the cost of living becomes manageable. They are not lazy. When this become something for you to sound off on?
The facts are this: The same people that get angry at people on assistance can't stand immigrants coming into the country. The ones who contribute to our economy, not only by filling gaps in our labour force and paying taxes but also by spending money on goods, housing and transportation. And will vote for the guy who promises to lessen, or disallow, as many in the country. I'll be satisfied once someone can explain that to me.
For now, I'd be cool if everyone stopped being judgy c*nts. It won't happen, I know that. I just hope you listen to this if nothing else. You better hope nothing life altering happens to you or yours. Cause you'll undeservingly be labelled with a tag of ignorance and bullshit.
Kindness is something that still hasn't been affected by inflation. And as much as you think you know someone's whole story, you don't. The way other people live their lives has no bearing on yours, so do me a favour? You don't like the way a person lives. Shut your gob and move on? 'Cause it doesn't cost you a production-ceased Canadian penny.
Damn right!
